The ninety-seventh day...

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 4
Tired. Tired. Tired...

I hope everyone had a great day. I'm off to sleep, but first a new Train of Thought :)

To doubt everything or to believe everything
are two equally convenient solutions;
both dispense with the need for thought.

- Henri Poincare, Science and Hypothesis

Enjoy the rest of the night everyone!

The ninety-sixth day...

Monday, June 29, 2009 9
My assistant came into my office today to see if it was okay with me that she request a few days off in August. Over the weekend, her boyfriend's parents asked her if she would like to accompany them on their family trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas - All. Expenses. Paid. She did the whole 'that's far too generous-at least let me pay my own way-this is just too kind' thing before saying yes. I said that it will be fine with me if she takes the time off. I mean how could I say no? She was practically floating on air and bouncing off the walls when she was telling me about it. Now she just needs to clear it with her two other supervisors and make a formal request with the Dept. Manager. Good Luck to her. That sounds like too wonderful a vacation opportunity to pass up.

Now, if only I could go on a real vacation...

Below is a picture of a section of a wall from one of the local courthouses. The outer walls (I've never been inside) are full of quotes :) It's really quite nice.

Have a great night everyone!

Let's be friends :)

Thanks so much Moonjava (@ the wonderful Moonjava’s Muse) for this lovely award :)

"This award is bestowed onto blogs that are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

I’ve seen this award floating around quite a bit so I’m not going to tag anyone, but everyone should feel free to take this award and post it on their blog in the spirit of blogoverse friendship :)

Have a great day, and stay cool and dry everyone!

The ninety-fourth and ninety-fifth days combined...

Sunday, June 28, 2009 3
Today was another hot day :( I spent most of the afternoon relaxing (in front of the fan), and most of the evening watching Hostile Makeover and True Blood (in front of the fan). They were both great :)

As always the weekend has flown by too quickly - at least next weekend will be a long holiday weekend. My office has Friday off and I took Thursday off so I cannot wait for the long weekend. Let me say it one more time :) Long weekend :) Yea!

J. Crew changed it's window display again - bottles this time.

I have to say, that ice-cream one that they had a couple months back was still the best display.

Well, I'm off to bed. Have a great rest of the night everyone!

The ninety-third day...(a little belated)

Saturday, June 27, 2009 4
Last night was the Shecky's Girls Night Out event. It was held at the Puck Building and - unlike the GNO event that was held in March - turned out to a really fun night. I didn't buy anything this time, but the goodie bag was chock-full-o' some great stuff, and there were quite a few free product samples floating around. The drinks were free too, so that didn't hurt.

I managed to take a few pictures in between getting freebies and balancing my bags (yes, I did receive two goodie bags by accident. Thanks Shecky's :)

The Rock of Ages table had a mini 'wheel of fortune' type game going on. I won a $10 Dave and Busters voucher and some nail polish. Yea! P won a round trip ticket to Montauk. What the heck? They handed her the ticket without explanation. Is the play in Montauk? Haha.

It was packed - and ridiculously hot - in there.

He was making wine slushies. I don't really care for wine, but even I thought they were tasty.

I met up with my man after the event and we went to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I had read quite a few negative reviews prior to seeing it, but I was still pretty excited. I have to say...I loved it :) I loved the first one, I love Michael Bay (he makes things go in slow motion and go boom), and I loved this one. The movie is a little long, but it's a definite 'See It'. I recommend it to anyone :)
So, what have you all been up too?
Have a great night everyone!

The Friday 5

Friday, June 26, 2009 2
It's Friday again :) I'm still being stressed at work, but it's Friday so I still have a smile on my face :)

TGIF everyone, and here's the Friday 5...

1. Where do you get most of your information about current local events?
TV news and online.

2. Where do you get most of your information about current national and international events?
TV news, online, and The Week magazine.

3. Who in your family always is most likely to know what’s up with everyone else in your family?
My mom :)

4. Who at work (or school) always seems to know what’s going on?
P.

5. What other kinds of news do you try to keep up-to-date on and where do you get it?
I keep up on the entertainment news – both for fun and for work – usually through magazines, the news and online.

Have a great day!

Get your free Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt tomorrow :)

Thursday, June 25, 2009 4
For everyone who has a Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt location near them, tomorrow they will be giving out free small sizes of their new flavors :)

The ninety-second day...

Yellow cabs, traffic, and tourists. That's NYC :)

I took a walk down to the AE store today to look at this tote bag that I was interested in. I ended up liking it, but not loving it. Having to push and claw my way through hundreds of people, and the humidity, during the 10 or so block walk didn't help matters.

I'm still working on that horrible project :( They are being so unreasonable on their end. All I know is that I am leaving the office at 5:30 tomorrow to go to the GNO event, and if things are not resolved then that's just tough. I've spent the better part of three weeks trying to be reasonable and it hasn't gotten me very far.

In other news - sad news - we lost three more greats this week :( Ed McMahon on Tuesday, and Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson today. The voice of the Johnny Carson Show/Seeker of Stars/and former maker of millionaires, a strong and talented Angel, and the dynamic King of Pop. They will be missed.

Good night everyone.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

The ninety-first day...

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 5
My hopes were dashed :( I have an exceedingly annoying project that I'm dealing with at work, and everything fell apart with it right at 5:30. I didn't end up leaving until an hour later. I need Friday to come now - actually, I need this project to come together before Friday because there is no way that I am staying one minute past 5:30 then. P and I are going to the Shecky's Girls Night Out event and I am not missing anymore me time this week in favor of them time. I really hope this GNO event is better than the one held in March. P and I attended that one as well, and were horribly disappointed. Both the event itself and the goody bags we received were pitiful. This one is being held at a better location, so hopefully it will be fun.

My dad left today for a week long trip to his sister's :( I miss him already.

He went to visit his sister and her hubby to attend their combination birthday (his)/wedding anniversary party. The rest of us would have gone, but it was just too many schedules to arrange at once. I hope he has fun, but I miss him already - did I already say that :)

A couple of weeks ago, while simply trying to take a lunchtime walk, I ran across another Midtown Manhattan sidewalk tourist cluster.

What were they waiting for? I have no idea, but as I walked around them - in the street - I saw this sight standing in the middle...

During the time that I took my camera back out (I had put it back in my pocket after taking the group picture), turned it on, and got into position to take his picture he never blinked. Not once. That's dedication :)

Have a great night everyone!

The ninetieth day...(a little belated)

I was had to work late yesterday (the day when this should have been posted) and was kept company by my office mascot, Pennington - the koala.

He's reading Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase :)

P and I had visited Build-a-Bear last year and made up some office mascots for ourselves. She opted for casual wear for her buddy but I went for a business look. With his grey fur and horn rimmed glasses he looks like quite the crotchety old business man. Anyway, hopefully I won't have to work late again tonight. We'll see.
Have a great day everyone!

A camera strap giveaway :)

For those of you out there who are looking to 1) find a great photography blog, and 2) jazz up your camera a bit, you should head over to I Heart Faces. The lovely folks over there are having a designer camera strap giveaway (sponsored by “Pepper: Spice Up Your Camera” :) My favorite strap design would have to be the Retrofresh (it’s all gorgeous colors and stripes), but you can head over to the sites and check them out for yourself. The contest ends on Sunday, June 28, 2009.

The eighty-ninth day...

Monday, June 22, 2009 2
I am exhausted and I don't really know why. I didn't get up any earlier. I didn't work late today. I got a seat on the train and on the bus. I don't know what's up, but I feel as if I can barely keep my eyes open :(

I know what it is! I need a vacation :) A week should do it :)

I'm reaching into my old pictures today...

That Predator costume was on point!

From Comic Con 2009

Predator freaks me out so much - I mean look at it (creepy) - but I have to admit that it was a great costume.

Have a great night everyone!

The eighty-seventh and eighty-eighth days combined...

Sunday, June 21, 2009 20
My man and I had gone to see Ledisi in concert awhile ago. I didn't really know many of her songs prior to attending, but my man is a fan and it was my b-day gift to him. I ended up enjoying myself, even though her music is very jazzy and she tends to scat a lot in her songs. Scatting tends to bother me a bit :)

She was a great performer though. She kept the audience laughing and singing throughout the whole show.

It was a great night. I love going to smaller concerts like that :)

In other news, I was tagged by jeanette over at Cooler Ranch or Nacho Cheese? (excellent blog title, btw) for the Honest Scrap Award. Thanks jeanette :) This is a pretty cool award.

The eighty-sixth day...

Friday, June 19, 2009 4
I spent the day lounging around while trying to stay cool (it was hot in here). I actually wanted to sleep later than I did, but a Con Ed guy had to ring the bell and set my dog, T, off. I was still in my pajamas, my hair was a hot mess, and I was already agitated because T accidentally knocked over his water in his barking/jumping at the door excitement. I'll admit it. I was a bit more curt with the guy than I should have been. Sorry guy - hope I didn't put a damper on your day. He did ring the wrong bell though, so part of the blame lies with him.

I love these little stickers on the Chiquita bananas.

I found this Banana and Bacon Stuffed French Toast recipe the other day, and it just sounds so delicious. I'll have to be less lazy one day and actually try it.

Have a great rest of the night everyone!

Questions, questions, I love questions :)

So there’s this wonderful question game going around – and you all know how I love questionnaires :) The game goes like this: I went to Fidgeting Gidget’s blog, read her five questions, made some comments, and she then gave me 5 awesomely random questions to answer.

Enjoy (and if you would like some questions from yours truly, just let me know) :)

1) Who would win in a Celebrity Deathmatch: Designing Women or Golden Girls? Please state your matchups and who would win and why.

Oh man, this is a difficult one. Let’s go through the teams.

First, the Golden Girls:

Dorothy = She’s got the height and the spunk, she grew up in Brooklyn, NY and she put up with Stan :) She would definitely be the team muscle/enforcer.
Sophia = She’s cunning and spunky. She would also look out for the rest of the team and rally their spirits with her inspirational stories (“Picture this”). Plus, she survived Shady Pines :) Definite team leader.
Rose = She seems like she would be scrappy in a fight. She is probably really strong from doing all those farm chores while she was growing up, and she would be able to baffle and confuse her opponent with her St. Olaf stories.
Blanche = Did you see the punch she threw at the guy down by the docks when they were protesting? She clocked him :) She might be scared to fight at first (don’t hit the face or break a nail, you know), but she is fiercely loyal to her friends and wouldn’t be able to stand idly by while they were being attacked.

Second, the Designing Women:

Julia = She’s outspoken and had more than enough of her own spunk to take on any opponent. She was quick to tell off anyone who offended her or her family. She’s a bit too quick to go to battle to be team leader, but almost nothing can stop her once she gets going.
Suzanne = She would use all her mirrors to blind and cut her opponents. It would take a while for her to get over the shock that someone was actually attacking her, but I also think she would be the one to have weapons hidden on her person.
Mary Jo = She’s a small and scrappy redhead. I feel like she would be like a tea kettle. It would take a while for her anger to reach the surface, but when it did, she would explode into fists of fury.
Charlene = She seemed like another one who could be scrappy. She rarely got visibly angry, but she was pretty good at coming up with some off-the-wall plans. For that reason, I think she would probably be made the team leader.

I see the match-ups going like this:

Dorothy vs. Julia (Dorothy wins)
Sophia vs. Mary Jo (Sophia wins)
Rose vs. Charlene (Charlene wins)
Blanche vs. Suzanne (Blanche wins)

When it’s all said and done, and the dust settles, I think the Golden Girls would emerge victorious (3 to 1). They’re older, and they’ve seen and done it all – the Designing Women wouldn’t stand a chance.
2) What is your favorite thing about where you live?

I live in the metro area, so I would say that my favorite thing is that there is a lot of public transportation around. I don’t drive and love that I don’t need to rely on a car to get me where I need to go. If I want to go out, or head into the city, I can just hop on the bus or the train and get where I need to be. True the buses and trains can often be annoying, but you learn to deal with it. You even learn to deal with those times when the air conditioning breaks down and your train gets stuck in a tunnel due to signal issues, etc… :)
3) What is the worst job you ever had?

The absolute worst was when I was a bus person. Having to deal with customers yelling at me was bad enough; but seeing what people leave behind on their plates was horrible. Some people had absolutely no table manners at all.
4) If you were to be tortured, which would you prefer: Walking across 100 yards of burning hot coals barefooted, or laying on a bed of nails for 2 hours?

I love sleeping. I always joke around with my man and my family that I would make sleeping my job if I could :) I can also fall asleep pretty much anywhere, so I’d choose the bed of nails.
5) What is one food you cannot stand?

There are so many foods that I can’t stand, but if I can only choose one I’d say shellfish. I used to eat shrimp when I was a kid, but one day I saw this PBS show featuring shrimp and decided they were too cute to eat. I couldn’t stomach them after that. Nowadays, I don’t eat anything with shrimp, lobster, scallops, crabs, oysters, or clams.
Enjoy the rest of the day everyone!

The Friday 5

TGIF everyone! Ah, the sweet bliss of Friday has graced us with its presence once again - enjoy the Friday 5 :)

1. What are your feelings about milk?
I like it. It’s tasty – when it’s ice cold (I can’t stand warm milk).

2. What are your feelings about cheese?
I love cheese – all kinds. It’s just delicious :)

3. What are your feelings about yogurt?
Same as cheese – love it.

4. How do you feel about soy milk?
I’ve never tried it.

5. How far are you from the nearest cow?
I’d say pretty far, but with all the news stories that I’ve been seeing lately about the strange pets that people keep, who really knows.

Have a great Friday everybody!

The eighty-fifth day...

Thursday, June 18, 2009 5
Well, today was the Recognition Team's ice-cream social at work. It ended up being a fun hour, filled with Ben & Jerry's ice-cream, so I was happy. It was a great end to my workweek :)

A Ben & Jerry's Rep came and set everything up (and handled the clean-up)

The flavor list

The toppings :)

Gotta love the message :)

The Recognition Team gave everyone got a keepsake ice-cream dish too. I love, love, love free :)

Night all!

The eighty-fourth day...

Wednesday, June 17, 2009 5
I hope everyone had a good day. I am exhausted - this week has been hectic times 10. I worked late today, so I had to go for a short walk at about 4pm just to clear my head and get away from the phones. It seems that everyone decided that today would be the day to call in, screw up and cause problems. Oh well, we are having an ice-cream social at work tomorrow (yep, you read that right), and I am off on Friday so tomorrow will be my workweek Friday. Thank goodness!

I wandered into Duane Reade on my walk looking for chocolate - again, it was that kind of day. I didn't get any chocolate (their prices were not to my liking today :) and I was so tired that when I passed the licorice pictured below I actually thought that it said 'Young & Single' licorice. I actually spent a split second wondering why a company would pick that brand name.

Have a great night everyone. I'm off to sleep :)

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

The eighty-third day...

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 5
Is it only in New York that you can see random kegs in the middle of the street in the middle of the day. I saw several people eyeing it until this guy came back for it.

But seriously people...it's the middle of the day in Midtown, and kegs are heavy. How far do you think you'd get with it?

G'night everyone :)

Monday, June 15, 2009

The eighty-second day...

Monday, June 15, 2009 5
Due to signal issues and a stalled train in the tunnel, I had to do a bit of walking before I could catch a train home tonight. Thank goodness the rain had already stopped, but I was still soaked by the time I got on the train. Humidity, I loathe thee.

A few pics from my walk:

Yet another spectacular fountain :)

Well, I'm off to sleep. Have a great night everyone!

The eightieth and eighty-first days combined...

Sunday, June 14, 2009 7
This weekend flew by...but they always do. My man and I went to see a couple of movies on Friday night, and I was pleasantly surprised that they were both really good.

We saw The Taking of Pelham 123 first and then caught a late showing of The Hangover. I love bad Travolta and good Denzel, so I thought Pelham was really good - different that the original, but still good. The Hangover was just insane! It was hilarious. All four guys had their funny moments, and Bradley Cooper is just hot :)

My man's family had their cat spayed recently. She, of course, has had to wear one of those pet cones so she can't get at her stitches.

She hates taking pictures

She looks adorable, but it's so sad to see her trying to clean her little paws through the plastic. The good news is that she only has to deal with the cone for a couple more days.

How's everyone else's weekend going?

Enjoy the rest of the day!

Friday, June 12, 2009

The seventy-ninth day...

Friday, June 12, 2009 7
I bought this Office Doodle Notebook yesterday at Barnes & Noble. I wouldn't have picked it up, but it was 1) funny and 2) on clearance. Gotta love B&N's bargain book section.

The book includes a section in the middle with what it calls official looking charts for purchasers to flip to if the boss walks by :)

The book also includes a highlighted disclaimer stating that the makers of the book shall not be held liable for any job loss suffered as a result of doodling. I like nonsense books like that.

Enjoy the rest of the night everyone!

The Friday 5

It is a lovely Friday once again everyone - made so lovely because I have the day off :)

TGIF everyone, and now here's the Friday 5:

1. What’s something you will not eat unless you also have ketchup?
Nothing :) There are plenty of other condiments that I love and will substitute.

2. What’s something you will not drink unless it is served on ice cubes?
I love ice in almost all my drinks, but I’ll say Iced Tea.

3. What’s something you will not eat unless it is served between slices of bread?
Can’t think of anything for this one either.

4. What’s something you will not drink unless you have a straw?
Nothing.

5. What’s something else you will not eat except under very specific circumstances?
Well, something I will not drink except under very specific circumstances is Gatorade. I will not drink this unless I am sick and dehydrated, or there is absolutely nothing else in the house to drink.

Have a great day everyone!

Thursday, June 11, 2009

The seventy-eighth day...Alien Alert

Thursday, June 11, 2009 6
My man and I saw a trailer for District 9 a while back. It looks like an interesting movie (and it's produced by Peter Jackson), but it's more of a wait for Netflix or cable film for me. The promotional posters are neat though - in that weird way :)

I spot two humans. No need to call the number :)
P and I went to Barnes & Noble today to pick up Keith Hernandez's new book. She's giving it to her guy for Father's Day. At first we were told that he wouldn't be taking any posed pictures, but he must have changed his mind because we were able to get a group shot with the three of us :) I also snapped the pic below of the guy who was waiting behind us in line posing with Keith.
It was a nice half hour. I had to wait on line - which I absolutely hate doing - but I got a nice couple of pictures and I didn't even have to buy the book.

In other news, one of my friends brought the Happy News site to my attention today :) It's a nice site with the tag line "Real News. Compelling Stories. Always Positive." I like :) Feel free to check it out if you're in the mood.

Have a great night everyone!

The seventy-seventh day...

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 5
First off, I apologize for the horrid quality of this picture. It was taken from a moving car, with a camera phone, at night, etc, etc, etc.

Anywho, I passed this house almost everyday, on my way to work, while it was being renovated.

I saw the little piece of cardboard that they put down for that upper balcony. Believe me when I say that no one should step out there - ever. I'm not even sure that heavy plants should be placed on it. It's a horrible accident waiting to happen.

The thing that bothers me the most though is the same thing that bothers me about a lot of the new houses that they are building these days. This house is not that big. The front may look large, but the house itself does not stretch that far back onto the lot. However, it is being billed as a 16 bedroom/multi-family house. Yes, 16 bedrooms. The rooms must be the size of tiny closets. Whoever ends up living there is going to packed in like sardines in a can. One family houses are such a rarity now :(

Enjoy the night everyone!

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

The seventy-sixth day...

Tuesday, June 9, 2009 10
Well, I braved the rain today to head over to Bath and Body Works for their Semi-Annual Sale during my lunch hour. I may have gone a bit overboard...no, I definitely went overboard :) I do love a sale!

Air fresheners, body sprays, and scented anti-bacterial wipes - Oh My!
This was just a weird mannequin that I saw at the mall over the weekend. I understand the need to set a scene in storefront windows, but this pose a bit over the top :)

A mannequin doing 'The Bump' in the Forever 21 window

Anyway, I'm gonna finish watching The Sweetest Gift and then head off to sleep. Enjoy the night everyone!

Monday, June 8, 2009

The seventy-fifth day...It's getting hot in here

Monday, June 8, 2009 4
It's here. Summery weather filled with horribly oppressive heat and humidity. I hate this weather - and the humidity is only going to get worse over the next few days. Peachy!

How's the day going for everyone else?

Mr. Sun, you are really starting to tick me off :(

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone! I'm off to sit as close to the air conditioner as humanly possible.

Sunday, June 7, 2009

The seventy-third and seventy-fourth days combined...

Sunday, June 7, 2009 2
This weekend went by way to quickly...but then again they always do. Sorry about the belated post. I spent most of yesterday morning hanging out with my family :) We went to the mall for a bit. A fight broke out there between two guys, and it appeared the fight was over the cost of a cell phone case. Yea...okay. Security came and calmed everyone down and all the drama was over within minutes. I got a large Caramel Chillatta from Cinnabon so it was a happy afternoon for me :)

I also took a walk through the Sock Drawer - I love colorful socks, but the salespeople were too pushy and the prices were ridiculous so my only purchase in the mall ended up being the Chillatta.

I bought more stuff when we went to Target, but it's virtually impossible to not buy something in Target :)

The evening was spent with my man's family. My man and I were supposed to go out and watch a movie. We were trying to decide between seeing Up, The Hangover, or Night at the Museum 2, but we all just got to talking and decided to just order Papa John's and hang out.

Today was hot, and I've spent most of the day alternating between sleeping, playing God of War 2, watching the Tony Awards and trying to stay cool. How is it possible that it's almost Monday again?

Enjoy the rest of the night everyone!

Friday, June 5, 2009

The seventy-second day...

Friday, June 5, 2009 5
I saw this neat little thing in Staples today.

Tangle Therapy, which the box says is to be used for hand and mind wellness. What happened to using regular old stress balls? I have quite a few stress balls - places always seem to be giving them away, and who am I to say no to a free promotional item - but, now that I see this fancy piece of whatnot, I feel a bit behind the times. Well, not really :) My current stress ball that I keep a work is shaped like the head of a cute little black cat and cost me a dollar, so I'm good.

Have a great night everyone!

The Friday 5

It's Friday again everyone. It's a dreary and rainy Friday, but that's perfectly okay with me because I have already started counting down to 5:30pm. Come on weekend, hurry up and get here already :)

So, TGIF and here's the Friday 5...

1. What bugs truly freak you out?
So many – especially bees, spiders and dragonflies (and yes, I know that dragonflies don't really do anything to you, but they are just so huge)

2. Which Bugs Bunny cartoon do you remember most fondly?
There are too many of them to list. I used to love watching all those characters though, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner, Tweety, etc… Fun memories :)

Part of an episode that I can actually remember watching as a kid:

3. What bugs you most about your life online?
Probably that it can sometimes be difficult to get the proper tone across to the reader

4. Which of your favorite websites seems often to be especially buggy?
Facebook sometimes

5. When were you last too sick to get out of bed?
Last July. Food Poisoning. Horrible. I was out of commission for almost 2 weeks.

Have a great day everyone! Stay dry :)

The seventy-first day...The Times Square Walkway

P and I decided to pretend that we were tourists again during lunch today. I grabbed my camera - okay, so it was already in my pocket anyway, but back to the story - and we headed over to Times Square.

For the first time in the history of our 'let's-act-like-tourists' days, I have to say that I was disappointed. Times Square was so empty today. I've never seen it like that. The most horrible thing, however, was the pedestrian walkway. It was a sad, sad, sorry sight. Just horrible. Hopefully it will be modified and improved. There are some pics included below, of course :)

Has anyone else seen the walkway? If so, what did you think?

One of the best parts of Times Square today :)

The other best part of Times Square today. It seems someone had a little too much fun at the Marriott last night and danced right out of their shoes :)
Enjoy the rest of the night everyone!
